"Similar to the systems used by air-traffic control, as each vehicle approaches an intersection, it automatically requests access from the traffic management system. It then receives its assigned time or 'slot' to pass through the intersection. Doing this would speed up the overall flow, avoiding the 'stop and go' pattern of current roadways." "'Travel and waiting times would be considerably reduces and fuel consumption would go down,' says Professor Dirk Helbing of the ETHZ," Daily Mail wrote.
