Max Roser gives a talk on publishing science online at ETH Zurich on 13.03.2017

Dr. Max Roser, a senior research fellow at the Institute of New Economic Thinking at the Oxford Martin School, will be speaking on March 13th, at 3.15 pm at CLU building C1. The title of his talk is "Publishing science online – what is possible?", and he will be discussing the possibilities that online publication offers.

by Dina Abdelhadi

Abstract: "Almost all publications on the web – including those in the best journals – are currently merely emulating the possibilities and restrictions of publishing on paper. They are often published online, yet they are static combinations of text and visuals which were essentially already at the disposal of Johannes Gutenberg when he invented the printing press in the 1440s.

In my seminar I want to present some recent work that is exploring what is possible when we are not restricted by publishing on paper. I will show some examples of 'Explorable Explanations' and I will talk about my own work on external pageOurWorldInData.org. I want to present some of the content of my online publication and will talk about the long term evolution of global health and prosperity. And I will discuss how to build an online publication and what the benefits are for both the reader and the author."
