As decentralized applications are not just pieces of software but enablers of entire new economies, the challenge to get their design right is formidable. Most blockchain-enabled networks are complex -- the interdependence of their various system components with each other and the external environment, as well as evolutionary processes, make it near impossible to predict global system behavior.

With a critical view on most of today's "cryptoeconomic designs", Michael will speak about how to structure complexity, the role of blockchain technology for socio-technical systems, and how he uses a new simulation tool to inform design decisions.

Professor Helbing gives a talk titled "Participatory Sustainability: From Finance 4.0 to Climate City Cups and Beyond…" in Geneva on the 21^st of March 2019. This will be a part of the Climate City Hackathon in preparation for the Climate City Cup.
